RYS 120: A Change in Perspective can Change our Destiny

In this Episode:

 

I was thirteen when my father took me on a day trip to Austin. One of our stops was the floor of the Texas Senate, the upper house of the State Legislature. Maybe dad hoped the experience would ignite within me the desire to someday run for office. While I have not pursued a position in government, I did cultivate a deep appreciation for the integrity of those who truly desire to serve and for the ideals of democracy, and the important role I, and every citizen, play in its success.

It took much soul searching for me to forgive my early religious experience. Born gay and raised in a fundamentalist Christian church in the southern part of the United States was a nightmare. The treatment I received was anything but Christ-like. Today I still witness many people who call themselves Christian behaving in ways that are opposite of what the man Jesus asked from those who desire to follow in his footsteps.

RYS-103: Master Your Mind That Has a Mind of Its Own

For many years, my life was created by an arrogant, self-centered mind “committee” of which I was an absentee member. I did not realize the agenda was a steady stream of negativity and fear. From morning until night, the committee deliberated about what I did wrong today, yesterday, or a year ago. It made detailed lists of the unkind things people said or did to me. It focused on the negativity in the world and rationalized receiving what it wanted when it wanted it.
