“Welcome to Romancing Your Soul. Everything offered here is designed to help you lead with your heart, to create a living legacy you are proud of and one for which you are remembered fondly.”
I am Regina Victoria Cates, author, adviser, activist, and creator of Romancing Your Soul. My greatest passion is helping to make the world a better place by being of service.
Here are a few other things you might like to know about me:
I was born in Plainview, Texas, to a 14-year-old unwed mother. My adoptive parents, Jean and Reagan, could not have children of their own, but they badly wanted a little one to share life with. So they adopted me when I was just three days old.
When I was four I got sick with the flu, was hospitalized, and almost died. One morning my mom left the room for a moment. A woman came in and stood by my bed. She said, “Do not worry, Regina. You will be okay. I am watching over you.” My mom returned and I asked, “Who was that woman?” She said, “Sweetie I was right outside the door and no one came in or out.” That was the first time I remember being visited by an angel.
I grew up in Victoria, Texas, where my adoptive parents, Jean and Reagan lived. In middle school I joined the band, played a variety of sports, and was a below average student.
After graduating high school, I went to the local community college and received an associate’s degree in general studies. Then I completed my undergraduate degree in education. Many years later I returned to college and received a master’s degree in leadership.
I love music and was principal French horn in a symphony orchestra as well as a rock and roll drummer in an all woman’s band called The Janes. Today my favorite music remains classical, but I also enjoy listening to Tibetan bells and Gregorian chants.
I have an OM tattoo on my left arm. My mom was cool about it but my dad not so much.
Mexican, Italian, Indian, Thai, and Mediterranean foods are my favorites.
Pizza, tacos, lasagna, and popcorn are my favorite guilty pleasures.
Before I became my own boss, I worked in manufacturing, at colleges and universities in marketing and public relations, and I managed medical practices. I also led thousands of people through leadership training exercises for companies like Southern Progress Corporation and others in Birmingham, Alabama where I lived for almost 20 years.
All of the eleven dogs I’ve had throughout my life were rescued, like I was.
I’m not a big fan of blood. I fainted when I got my ear pierced. But I was in the right place at the right time to help save the lives of two people who may have bled to death. A co-worker from a brain aneurism and my dad from a ruptured artery in his stomach.
I am married, and while I don’t have children of my own, I am blessed to have a godson, goddaughter, niece and nephew.
I have visited 45 of the 50 states in the U.S. I have also visited nine foreign countries.
Today I live in Los Angeles, California, but I have also lived in Texas, Missouri, Georgia, and Alabama.
One thing on my short bucket list is to see the aurora borealis in person.
Next to green, my favorite colors are combinations: purple/red, red/yellow, and green/blue.
My hobbies are gardening, bird and animal watching, and cooking.
Let me know how I can be of service to you on your journey of creating a life filled with love, compassion, and purpose.
